What life-changing travel tips can you share?
Main Post:
Sorry if this has been covered. I searched but didn't see anything. What is something someone taught you that changed the way you travel? Big ways, small way, airport specific - what was eye-opening to you?
Top Comment: The realization that no one is going to care if I wear the same clothes/colour scheme for the whole trip ... they’re not going to see you again. (My partner is a fierce advocate of packing lightly and couldn’t care less if he’s staring at the same sweater 4 days in a row 🤣) In the past couple of years we did a month in Portugal/Northern Spain with just a carryon each, ditto Ecuador/Galapagos, ditto England/Germany ... Good anti-perspirant, light layers, silk long underwear for layering - featherlight, breathes, looks fine under a tank top or tee, a silk or pashmina bright shawl/wrap over black pants - takes you everywhere. No one will care if you wear the same clothes as long as you don’t stink or have mustard stains down your front!
What are your best experiences traveling?
Main Post:
Building a bucket list of travel locations and experiences to go along with it. Some examples are skiing the Swiss Alp, going to the Great Barrier Reef for the fishing and scuba diving or going to Norway to see the northern lights. I’m going to be studying in London for my spring semester and wanna see as much as I can while over there. Money isn’t really that big of a object, I’ve been work a while to save up for this. I live in the U.S so international travel is quite expensive so being in the U.K is going to be big for cutting down travel times and price on flights and train rides
Top Comment: Some of my faves to date: Truffle hunting with dogs on a farm in Pettino, Italy (summer) Husky sledding, ice fishing & snowmobiling in Rovaniemi, Finland (late Dec, deep winter) Hiking an active volcano, Iceland Hiking a glacier, Iceland Renting a rowboat on Lago do Braies, Dolomites Paddle boarding to the church island on Lake Bled, Slovenia Paddle boarding around Sveti Stefan, Montenegro

Hello!! Curious to see the different responses to this question. So back story I’ve been traveling for a few years, taking smaller trips .. family events, friends weddings etc nothing longer than a few weeks at a time. But now I’m looking to get out my comfort zone and travel for an extended period. Maybe for a month to start out - then longer if possible with juggling working remote. Anyone that’s done an extended trip (months or even completely moved abroad) what would say be your number one most important thing to know?
Top Comment: Bring less stuff.
How do I start travelling?
Main Post:
I have always wanted to explore the world and do crazy adevntures but I don't know where to start from since im inexperienced. I also do not have friends who travel. Also, how do you financially sustain long-term travels?
Top Comment:
You start by saving money. It is a lot easier to travel if you financially plan for it. Start setting aside money each pay period.
Then start a wish list of places you are curious about. Think about books, shows, movies, history lessons that fascinated you. Curiosity is the best motivator
Then pick the east daunting those places. Preferably somewhere with a language you speak. Start researching and planning. If you are nervous to travel alone, look into escorted tours. Find a company/agency that meets with your age or interest.
I would recommend short term (under 10 days) you never know you will respond physically or emotionally to travel, especially solo travel. You don't want it to be negative the first time out when you are learning about yourself.
I legitimately don't feel like I "get" the point of travel

I've enjoyed being in other cities but I've never really felt like it justified the price and the time spent getting there. I don't really do anything new. I visit museums or whatever, but I eventually just grab some food and watch TV in my hotel room.
And tropical vacations I don't get at ALL. I have no idea why I'd fly out to the Bahamas. What would I do when I got there? Go to the beach and do what? Just lay down on a seat under an umbrella for hours and drink alcohol a waiter brings me? I'd be bored out of my mind. It bothers me just thinking about it. I'd probably spend my whole vacation staring at my phone, and I can do that just as well from home.
Top Comment: I love to travel and I found thread so interesting. I just love the change of pace. Not that I hate my life but I feel some sort of claustrophobia when I stay in the same place for too long. I need to miss home to remember I like it. I like to experience different weather, different food or just do nothing but in a different context. I travel because I need diversity.
